Beyond those are inter-war and post-war semis and large modern housing developments. Local issues ## Common roof and high-level problems in Grantham ### Railway-era terraces Red-brick terraces built in the Victorian and Edwardian eras are common in Grantham. Their chimneys, slate or tile roofs and cast-iron or older plastic gutters are now well over a century old in many cases, and need regular maintenance to stay watertight. ### Exposed edge-of-town estates Newer estates on the edges of Grantham are often on open, higher ground. Wind exposure can lift ridge and verge tiles, and solar panels on these homes attract nesting pigeons. ### Extensions and conservatories Many Grantham homes have rear extensions or conservatories, making it hard to reach gutters and roofs above them by ladder. The platform reaches over these obstacles, subject to an assessment before setting up. ### Stone buildings in the centre Older stone buildings in the town centre often have tall gables and chimneys. High-level painting, pointing and inspections can be carried out from the platform without scaffolding across the street.
